What’s On in Cape Town in August 2026 

Cape Town is turning up the energy this August with an exciting lineup of events you won’t want to miss, from the legendary Springboks vs All Blacks rugby showdown and world-class performances to wine experiences, film festivals, and comedy shows.

DHL Stormers XXIII vs Sharks  

1 August 2026 DHL Stadium 

The Carling Currie Cup returns to Cape Town, featuring one of South Africa’s fiercest rugby rivalries, as the DHL Stormers XXIII take on the Sharks. This Round 3 clash in the world’s oldest domestic rugby competition promises fast-paced action as the coastal rivals battle for early-season bragging rights. It’s a match you don’t want to miss. South African International Ballet Competition 

4 to 6 August 2026 Artscape Theatre Centre 

The 13th South African International Ballet Competition brings together some of the world’s most promising young ballet dancers. Competitors from South Africa and around the globe will perform in classical ballet and contemporary dance categories before an esteemed international judging panel. Blowfish Restaurant Monthly Pairing Series 

4 August 2026 Blowfish Restaurant, Dolphin Beach Hotel

Bottelnek Breek Bek 

6 to 9 August 2026 Artscape Theatre Centre 

Based on the acclaimed novel Bottelnek Breek Bek by Dianne Du Toit Albertze, regarded as the first transnovel, the production will run for a limited time this month. The powerful drama follows Dora, a woman searching for belonging in a world marked by violence and hardship, as she discovers strength and sisterhood among the women around her. ABFAB Drag 

7 and 8 August 2026 Artscape Theatre Centre 

The Absolutely Fabulous Drag Show (ABFAB DRAG) returns to the stage to celebrate Cape Town’s vibrant drag scene. This year’s spectacular lineup features the incomparable Vida Fantabisher, Beaulah: Queens van die Kaap stars Manila von Teez and Kat Gilardi, Jayde Kay Johnson, Angel Lalamore, and Mitchell Darling. 13–16 August 2026 Amura at the Mount Nelson Hotel

This August, Amura at Mount Nelson presents an extraordinary culinary experience as two of the world’s most celebrated chefs, Ángel León and Alain Roux, come together for an exclusive four-hands dining event. Bringing together six Michelin Stars, this limited series promises a journey of exceptional flavours, world-class technique, and innovative cuisine.
