BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Malawi Congress Party (MCP) deputy director of social services, Gerald Kazembe, has warned politicians against bringing confusion and instability in Mangochi district as the country is approaching the fresh presidential poll due this month.
Kazembe, who also contested in the 2019 parliamentary election, made the remarks on Sunday during Tonse Alliance rally in the district led by running mate Saulos Klaus Chilima.
“Politicians should stop using the youth to incite violence here in Mangochi and the country at large. Mangochi is known to be a peaceful district. We have always demonstrated our calmness and love for peaceful coexistence in both one party and multiparty politics.
“Let’s concentrate on issues not on politics of castigation. People in Mangochi will vote for Tonse Alliance because people in the district are now able to make their own political choices based on campaign messages political parties are feeding the electorate,” said Kazembe.
Recently, Kazembe also praised the Malawi Police Service (MPS), which many regard as the militia wing for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), for displaying what he called “professionalism” before, during and after the Tonse Alliance Mega rally he hosted at Mbwadzulu ground in his Mangochi Monkey-Bay constituency.
People’s Party (PP) Secretary General Ibrahim Matola said “people should accept that leadership change.”
He warned the people against being used by politicians to incite violence on political opponents.
Addressing the people, Chilima said Malawi needs leaders who will have the interest of the people at heart.
He urged Malawians to vote in large numbers to oust the current government so that Malawi can move forward.
“The current leadership has lied to Malawians for a long time by making people believe that they do them a favourite for giving them development. No leader should be applauded for bringing development initiatives because it is tax-payers’ money which is used for development,” Chilima said.
Chilima assured the gathering that Tonse Alliance government will introduce K75 billion business loans for small and medium enterprises.
He said each district will have its allocation which will be disbursed at the district council level.
Chilima then revealed that Mangochi has been earmarked to receive K4 billion from the funds.
