SALIMA-(MaraviPost)-Airtel Malawi Plc on Friday, September 29, 2023 donated teacher and learner books and resources to its adopted School Salima Primary School in commemoration of world Literacy Day which fell on 8th September, earlier this month.

The book donation to the school was initiated by Airtel Malawi staff who corroborated to donate new books to support the adopted school’s library and encourage reading.

The commemoration activities also featured a reading session with pupils from standard 5 with Airtel Malawi staff members.

The items donated are textbooks of various subjects ranging from standard 1 to standard 5.

In addition, teachers guides of the same subjects and class ranges as well as stationery items for the teachers were also donated.

Airtel Malawi’s head of Brands,PR & CSR , Norah Chavula Chirwa said: “Most schools especially in Primary Schools do not have the necessary resources required for learning. This delays their knowledge acquiring stages as they end up learning how to read at a later stage.

Chavula-Chirwa further added that the donation from the company’s staff members would help ensure that learners are provided with adequate information resources and that Airtel’s commitment to support the education sector in Malawi in both Primary and Secondary Schools will continue.

“According to Salima Primary school head teacher, Nathan Sambo, the donation has come at the right time where the school calendar has just begun. This will make teaching less challenging as now we have textbooks for the pupils and us teachers have resources to carry out our work.

“We are very grateful to Airtel for this generous donation. Airtel has been supporting us since 2010 with more than just books, they have built school blocks for us as well as provided desks for our learners to sit on. We commend them for their efforts and urge more organizations to follow suit,” Sambo added.

This donation worth over MK2.3 million, follows a similar donation at Airtel’s other adopted School, Masenjere Primary in Nsanje mid-August
