AMAI Gala Awards celebrate Malawian excellence in Ireland

DUBLIN-(MaraviPost)-The Association of Malawians in Ireland (AMAI) has honoured outstanding members of the Malawian diaspora at the 2025 AMAI Gala Awards, held recently in Dublin, Ireland.

The annual gala recognised exceptional achievements across various sectors, including business, arts and culture, sports, charity and entertainment, highlighting the positive impact of Malawians living in Ireland.

Top business accolades were awarded to Emillah Omah, who was named Business/Entrepreneur Woman of the Year and Sean Patel, who received the Business/Entrepreneur Man of the Year award.

The Women of Substance organisation was honoured as Charity of the Year, while Sarah Chilunga received the Art and Culture Award.

The sports category recognised excellence and dedication with Joshua Gama and Phangano Ndhlovu named Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year, respectively.

Emerging talents Mike Kayange and Grace Simati were honoured as Young Sportspersons of the Year. In chess, Nathaniel Kashanga was awarded Best Young Chess Player, while Thumbiko Nyasulu received the Best Adult Chess Player award.

In entertainment, Carol Kalonga was crowned Social Media Personality of the Year, Vida Brown Germano received the DJ of the Year award and Ian and Hannah were named Entertainers of the Year.

The AMAI Special Purpose Award was presented to Starlight Production and Made in Malawi in recognition of their significant contributions to community development initiatives.

Young talent was also showcased through the AMAI Kids Got Talent, The Chanju Memorial Show. Winners included Summer Kapyepye in the 0–6 age category, Blessings Jere in the 7–12 category and the Amazing Sisters Narehee, Arehana and Greatness in the 13–18 age group.

The gala evening was further enriched by vibrant performances from renowned Malawian artists Driemo and Temwa, adding cultural flair to the celebrations.

Speaking at the event, AMAI President Henry Mkumbira Phiri called on Malawians in Ireland to remain united and continue supporting one another.

“Let us remain focused and committed to uplifting our community. Together, we can achieve great things,” he said.

AMAI officials described the gala as a vital platform for celebrating excellence, inspiring future generations, and strengthening unity among Malawians living abroad.
