LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Following hiccups by local transporters in delivering the Affordable Input Program (AIP) items, Saudi Arabian company is expected to be selling fertilizer to the country next season.

Principal Secretary (PS) for the Ministry of Agriculture Sandra Mawelu said this on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 in Lilongwe during a meeting with cluster committee on Agriculture and Natural resources.

Mawelu said Arab company will help in quick delivery of fertilizer compared to those that they have used this year.

The PS said despite the hiccups the ministry has managed to reach out to 3 million farmers out of the 6.7 million target.

He said the ministry is expected to finish the delivery of AIP inputs by 15 march.

Chairperson for the committee,Sameer Suleiman said the committee is happy with the idea of bringing in the Saudi Arabia company as the Malawian companies have failed the nation.

Suleiman said AIP did not perform well as fertilizer did not reach the market in time.

This years AIP has been the worst program as they were several hiccups including untimely delivery to the beneficiaries.
