BLANTYRE(MaraviPost)—The battle for K2 million in the Be Forward four-team tournament is starting today with Silver Strikers and Big Bullets promising the country’s football fans to watch a very grand game this afternoon.
Earlier, there were speculations that Silver and Bullets will not use their regular players.
But speaking to ZBS on Friday morning, coaches from both sides said people should expect to see all the regular players including those who are with the Malawi national team.
“We have all the players who play for Bullets. People should expect to watch an impressive match because Bullets will feature a strong squad as usual. It’s a must watch game and people should come in large numbers to watch this game,” said Bullets mentor Elia Kananji.
On his part, General Secretary for Silver, Mike Tembo said the Bankers are ready for the game and they have all the players including those who are with the Malawi national team.
“We have prepared well for this game. We have even called players who are with the national team because we want to win this tournament. We don’t want the trophy to go to Blantyre but it should remain here in Lilongwe at Silver Strikers.
“We wanted to use players who do not feature regularly but we have rescinded that decision considering that we don’t know what weapons our opponents will use. But I can assure the Silver fans that by the end of 90 minutes today, Silver will be declared the winner,” said Tembo
The Be Forward tournament is two-day event which will run from today 26th September to Saturday 27th September 2014.
Be Forward are used car dealers from Japan that export vehicles and would like to establish agency in the country, hence the organization of the competition.
The organizers of the tournament disclosed earlier that the sponsor has pumped in K7 million towards the tournament which will see the winner going away with K2 million and a trophy while runners-up will pocket K1 million.
The third and fourth placed will get K500 000 and K250 000 respectively.
The opening game will be between Epac and Mighty Wanderers which will kick off at 12:30 pm followed the Silver and Bullets from 2:30.
The winners will meet on Saturday in the final match while the losers will be the curtain-raisers in a third place play-off.
According to the spokesperson of the organizing committee, Rashid Mtelela, the participants were selected based on number of supporters the team has.
“When companies sponsor tournaments such as these, they look at teams that have big following to enable them to sell their brands and it is no secret that Bullets, Wanderers and Silver command huge following.
“Of-course, there is a contention on which team comes fourth because of late Civo no longer has the same appeal like it was in the past,” said Mtelela.
