BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Exposed! Opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Guru, Farouk Gani of Victoria Pharmaceutical has been caught dominating Malawi’s MK4.5 billion Covid-19 budget contracts.
We can reveal that Farouk Gani the owner of Victoria Pharmaceutical and Universal Supplies through close links to former President Peter Mutharika was awarded MK4.5 billion worth of Covid-19 supplies Preventive Protective Equipment (PPEs) materials including over priced masks and other related items.
According to sources confided us on the matter, procurement procedures flawed when Gani connived with DPP and Rex Mutali at Central Medical Stores Trust (CMS) Trust in supplying over priced Covid-19 materials through the special allocated budget weeks before the Malawi 2020 re-election.
“Gani is also pushing CMS Trust to sign a framework contract for the supply of face masks 10 x the required quantity for the next five years 2020-2025 at more than double the current market 3ply face masks price,” reveal the source.
However, funds got into the deal were suspected to have been diverted for DPP’s lost June 23, 2020 presidential elections campaign.
Despite awarded such money contract Gani has not fulfilled the obligation of supplying PPEs.
Details of how Gani acquired the contract while dominating the supply chain is yet to be established in the current Tonse government.
Effort to get from Gani and CMS Trust officials on the matter proved futile as we went to press.
As of September 28, 2020, Malawi had 5770 Covid-19 cases with 179 deaths.
