LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera has assured people in the country that he will ensure prices of fertiliser on the local market are reduced to allow farmers to access the commodity.
Speaking during his whistle stop tour of Dowa on Thursday, August 21, 2025 the President observed that ill minded people were price fixing and offering the commodity at exorbitant prices inorder to discredit his goverment.
He however, said his government has strategies including importing of the commodity.
“We have already started stocking fertilizer and more is on the way. But what we want is to reduce prices because there are some unscrupulous people who are raising prices of commodities like cement, just to tarnish our image.
“Our manifesto aims at empowering people to be able to buy fertilizer for themselves, and not depending on government to buy for them,” he said.
Chakwera also promised to support families facing food shortages due to climate change, which he said had affected food production.
In his remarks, Senior Chief Mponela thanked the President for elevating him to Senior Chief and also for the Nkhorongo Dam project, which aims to end water challenges in the district, promote irrigation, among others.
He, however asked for a vehicle for Mponela Police Station to bolster security in the area.
MCP shadow MP for Dowa central Darlington Harawa thanked the President for the commencement of construction of Mponela Community Hospital, saying it will ease demand since the area only has one old facility, serving many people.
