Chakwera biting hard:Suspends awarding of Malawi Govt contracts pending auditing

Malawi Govt contracts on hold

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera is not getting state affairs as usual business. On Tuesday, June 30, 2020, temporarily suspended the awarding of Malawi government contracts with immediate effect to carry out a quick audit of the perspective contracts.

In a letter signed by Chief Secretary to the Government Zangazanga Chikhosi is addressing to controllers in government agencies and parastatals

According to Chikhosi, the decision has been made give government time to asses the transparency and credibility of the process and procedures followed in awarding the contracts.

The suspension is in line with the provisions of the Corrupt Practices Act (2004), the Public Audit Act (2003), the Public Finance Management Act (2003) and the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Act (2017) which aims at ensuring corruption free and fair contract management and prudence in public financial management.

Meanwhile, Chikhosi has consequently asked all institutions wishing to awarding any contacts to contact his office.

Since assumes power on Sunday, June 28, 2020 Chakwera has made a number of critical decision in cleansing exercise.
