CHIKWAWA-(MANA)-President Lazarus Chakwera has expressed satisfaction with the progress of Makhuwira Health Centre project in Chikwawa.
Speaking after inspecting the facility on Thursday, Chakwera said: “I am happy with the progress made so far and I have been assured that by October, the new structures; maternity wing, theatre, maternity waiting home and laundry will be ready for use.”
The president also commended the collaborative efforts of Chikwawa District Council, community members, traditional leaders and other stakeholders.
“Through these collaborative efforts, we are achieving a lot. This development will contribute to other advancements and help us become self-reliant because we need a healthy population,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chikwawa District Commissioner, Nardin Kamba thanked the president and the First Lady, Madame Monica Chakwera for visiting in person to assess the project’s progress.
“Their visit has motivated us as a council,” Kamba said.
He also pointed out the significance of the project, noting that the spacious maternity wing, waiting room and theatre were much needed in the district, noting: “The health centre will greatly improve health services delivery.”
“The new waiting room will reduce home deliveries for pregnant women and cases that were previously referred to Chikwawa District Hospital will now be treated here,” Kamba added.
