MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera has reiterated his government’s unwavering commitment to completing the long-awaited M’mbelwa University project in Mzimba district.
Speaking at Ephangweni, the headquarters of Inkosi Mzukuzuku, Chakwera emphasized that M’mbelwa University is a priority project for his administration.
“I know that M’mbelwa University is one of the projects at your heart, I must assure you that it is one of my priority projects. Very soon you will see the project being completed just like we have completed the road from here to Jenda,” Chakwera assured the gathering.
The President’s commitment to this project is not new. Earlier, the Minister of Education, Madalitso Kambauwa-Wirima, announced that the university is expected to open its doors in August 2025 with an initial intake of 500 students.
The total cost for completing the university is estimated at K450 billion, and upon completion in 2027, it will have a capacity to enroll up to 10,000 students.
Shadow Member of Parliament for the area, Chambulanyina Jere, expressed gratitude to the Chakwera-led government for constructing Police units, secondary schools, and new roads, which he said demonstrates the government’s efforts to address challenges faced by Malawians.
However, Jere also highlighted an outstanding need, stating, “While we are grateful for the numerous projects in this area, we are still asking for piped water here at Ephangweni.”
Inkosi Mzukuzuku, a local traditional leader, commended President Chakwera’s choice of Vitumbiko Mumba as his running mate, seeing it as a testament to Chakwera’s recognition of the potential of youths to participate in government business.
This development underscores the government’s focus on inclusive development and its commitment to delivering tangible projects that benefit local communities.
