Chakwera’s “Journey to the Presidency” book done in hurry to impress

By Nenenji Mlangeni

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-When Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera book titled; “Journey to the Presidency” was shared on Sunday, April 11, 2021 to social media platforms, caught also The Maravi Post attention to read it with zeal for this publication’s readers to benefit also.

Alas!, the book its not worthy one can learn anything apart from glorifying Chakwera on smooth path to presidency sanctioned by constitutional court for June 23, 2020 Fresh Presidential elections which he worn under Tonse Alliance banner.

Many book worms (books readers) like us, have questioned the seasoned Journalist and renown writer Willie. T. Zingani for giving out raw deal of the book which was supposed to be well-cooked.

Zingani a Malawian journalist, novelist, playwright and poet whose works have been included in Malawi, Ghana and Ethiopia school curricula failed to bring full biography of Chakwera to president cultivated with youthful picture of him, but the book is nothing far from it.

The wasteful 102 pages book lacks relevant information. It is simply a compilation of speeches, quotations, and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) manifesto, the main shareholder in Tonse administration.

Despite the book staring on a good note by providing spatial background of Lazarus Chakwera nothing serious to the rest of the pages.

In fact, the real content of the book is from pages 1 to 36. The rest of the pages were just filled with speeches, court ruling and MCP manifesto. Just a compilation.

Readers expects the book’s author Zingani of five Chichewa and two English titles in addition
to some poems anthologized in Malawi, Britain and France to give us nitty-gritties about Chakwera vis-a-vis his childhood life, primary school education, secondary school education, university education, work experience, his values and priorities.

Zingani’s work in the book is non-starter aimed to impress not necessarily that the book is worthy reading for inspiration, nothing.

In the political arena, the author Willie who has worked in many media houses as communications
executive, corporate social responsibility specialist, senior reporter, editor and general manager, would have stressed on what Chakwera is offering to Malawians. What makes him unique as the president of Malawi in comparison to other previous presidents?

It is not an unfair assessment to conclude that the book provides a vacuum of information pertaining to President Lazarus Chakwera.

The book was done in hurry just to impress. If you have time read it and agree with me later.
