LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The ground has been leveled now with reports reaching the publication that Malawi Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima has been nominated to lead UTM and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) electoral alliance with other partners for the forthcoming July 2, fresh presidential elections.
Sources within both camps have tipped ours that on Saturday, May 2, 2020 in Lilongwe there was a min-convention which voted Chilima to lead the alliance.
Even senior UTM member Louis Ngalande on Sunday, May 3, 2020 wrote on his Facebook; “You have voted and Dr. Chilima has won to lead the alliance lengezanitu basi (announce it). We said even in your camp he is favoured”.
This means MCP leader Chakwera will be the runningmate for the alliance.
The post comes barely two days before presidential candidates’s presentation of nomination papers on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 in Blantyre.
This disputes the pulled down post MCP Chief in Parliament Sam Kawale wrote on his Facebook page upon registering that the party leader Dr. Lazarus Chakwera is to be torchbearer.
However, Chilima and Chakwera were mandated to choose between them to lead the alliance.
The alliance has other partners including People’s Party (PP), Alliance For Democratic (Aford), Umodzi Party (UP), Freedom Party (FP), Mafunde and others.
