Drama ensued when Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Ntchisi South lawmaker Ulemu Chilapondwa insulted his constituents that they do not need cooking oil because it is meant for the elite.
In the turn of events, Chilapondwa changed tune that now his local constituents need cooking oil by issuing a statement of apology.
This looks like a manganya episode. Does Chilapondwa know his constituents? Do our Members of Parliament (MPs) really represent the people of their constituency? Do the MPs visit or consult their constituents? Doubtful it stands.
We have been crying foul for the upward cost of cooking oil for our local citizens not knowing that the government thinks that the essential commodity is only for the elite. This is pathetic.
I think such MPs who insult their own constituents must be suspended from parliamentary proceedings for a while or their salary must be deducted for not performing their core duties of representing the aspirations of their constituents. An apology is not enough.
The major underlying cause of ineptitude among the MCP bootlickers is that they don’t reason rationally and objectively. They want to refute even the truth just to please their masters. They can even defend nonsense.
A quick reminder to MCP diehards in parliament is that they were elected by the people of their constituency. They are therefore representing the welfare of their local constituents. President Chakwera nor the party voted you into parliament.
Whenever you want to make any contribution in parliament, ask yourself if whatever you say will represent the welfare of your constituents. President Chakwera , I reiterate, or your MCP , I repeat, will not vote for you again in 2025. You can seek favours now from President Chakwera but that will not give you a vote again in 2025. We are your employer. We can decide whether to employ you again or not in 2025.
So my advice to MCP bootlickers, who want to get favours by licking the dirtiest boot, is that you should endeavour to defend the truth. You don’t refute the truth just because it comes from someone whom you think is from an opposition party.
There are some MCP bootlickers who defend every nonsense. For example, they defended MCP Government for reducing the number of beneficiaries for input subsidy programme saying prices of goods were high.
Surprisingly, they also defended the same MCP Government when President Chakwera changed tune that they would maintain the same number of beneficiaries. Utter nonsense with no sense of direction.
Similarly when Chilapondwa insulted his constituents that the cooking oil is for the elite, the myopic MCP diehards defended him by saying that cooking oil is not a basic need.
When MP Chilapondwa has apologised for the nonsense he uttered, they again praise him that he is brave. Wonders will never cease.
Members of parliament, please represent your constituents.
