Zomba, January 28 (MaraviPost): Domasi College of Education students have challenged the college to replenish trees that have been destroyed to make the college greener.

Student representative in Geography Department, Witson Nangunu made the call on Friday as students and lectures were planting trees around the campus.

“Our wish is to make the college more beautiful and greener by planting more trees and regenerating already exist trees,” he said.

Nangunu said all students at the college were involved in tree planting and caring activities any time when they are requested to participate.

Principal for Domasi College, Florida Banda said the college wants to restore the evergreen environment at the college.

“We want to replenish the good environment which was lost after harvesting trees in 2014/2015 season,” she said.

Banda advised student and communities surround to plant more trees during this tree planting season because trees act as barriers to strong winds.

The Principal promised to take care of the trees in order to make them survive and harvest them in future.

She expressed concern over the increased cases of encroachment where communities around the college steal trees from the compass.

During the exercise, students from Domasi Demonstration Primary, Secondary and College took part and 600 trees were planted.
