Dowa Council’s DPD calls for mindset change

By Vincent Gunde

DOWA-(MaraviPost)-Dowa District Council’s Director of Planning and Development Mercy Mpakule, says Malawi is not poor but it is the mindset of the people that are poor hence to change to the better to develop the district to wear a new face.

Mpakule said it is the wish of the people of the district to see to it that their district should change and not continue to be in abstract poverty lacking the basic social services as if partners implementing various interventions have exited their projects.

Speaking during an extraordinary District Executive Committee (Dec) meeting held at the boma, Mpakule observed with great concern that the district receives a lot of resources from government and development partners but the impact is not much being seen on the ground.

She said as Malawi is putting its priority to develop from a low-income economy to middle income by 2030, Dowa district must also take the same path to change for the better so that all projects which are being implemented are in the spirit of transparency and accountability.

Mpakule said it is sad to learn that countries that had the same economy as Malawi 50 years ago have developed beyond recognition while Malawi is still there begging money from the same describing this as shame.

’’If we are development conscious, our communities will follow our guidance to develop,’’ she said.
