MANGOCHI-(MaraviPost)-Opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader Peter Mutharika says the party will be back in government soon to be on driving seat while rescuing Malawians from President Lazarus Chakwera’s ungovernable leadership.
Mutharika said the party may be back before 2025, because the Tonse government which he said has ‘failed’ will not continue up to 2025.
He was speaking on Saturday, December 17, 2022 in Mangochi during end of year mega rally.
Mutharika said his government would have achieved its desire of turning Mangochi into a huge resort city like those found in Mexico and Singapore.
He reminded the mass rally that when he was Malawi’s President, he wanted to construct a lot of roads in Lilongwe, Mzuzu and Blantyre to improve the faces of the cities.
Former Malawi leader said his government managed to improve the economy without the support of major donors for some time.
Mutharika has since pledged that his administration will improve the economy within six months of reclaiming power.
Commenting on his party’s status, Mutharika said the DPP is not divided as some people are claiming.
He explained that all party structures are under his leadership.
Mutharika said people holding different views within the party does not mean that the party is divided.
He says having different views regarding policy issues is not wrong because it brings out good decisions at the end.
Mutharika therefore extended an invitation to those who left the party to come back.
DPP is expected to hold elective convention in July 2023.
This comes amid Chakwera’s failure to fix self-made economic mess two years in power.
Chakwera’s leadership is characterised by high cost living, corruption, nepotism, forex and fuel shortages and among others.
