Malawi renown Pediatrician, Dr. Peter Kazembe has died. Dr Kazembe died in a south African hospital where he was being treated for cancer.
Through his long carrier Dr. Peter Kazembe, One of Malawi’s Best Pediatricians, touched many lives.
Peter Kazembe, MB ChB, FRCP(C), was the executive director at the Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation Malawi. He was an associate professor of clinical pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine, Texas, United States.
Before heading Malawi’s first pediatrics HIV clinic, he was the chief of pediatrics at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe, Malawi. In addition to his roles in pediatric HIV care, he was involved in malaria research and control activities nationally and internationally.
He previously served on the Technical Review Panel of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. He served on a number of World Health Organization (WHO) expert committees and was member of the WHO Technical Reference Group on Pediatric HIV/ART care and the Expert Panel on Drug Evaluation.
He also served as an associate editor for the International Journal of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease. He obtained his undergraduate medical degree from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom, and his postgraduate medical degree from the University of Toronto, Canada.
