MBANKOMO-(MaraviPost)-Samuel Eto’o has been re-elected president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), securing a new four year term in a dominant show of support from voting delegates.

The former international football star, who first took over the leadership in 2021, continues his stewardship with an overwhelming endorsement.

Out of the 87 delegates who participated in the election, Eto’o received 85 votes, leaving only two ballots spoiled. The near unanimous result reflects a strong vote of confidence in the direction he has taken the federation over the past four years.

During his first term, Eto’o introduced a number of reforms aimed at modernising Cameroon’s football system. These included improving governance structures, strengthening financial transparency and championing better welfare conditions for players in the domestic leagues.

His leadership also focused heavily on developing football at the grassroots level.

Under his tenure, several youth initiatives were launched to identify and nurture young talent across the country. These programmes have been widely praised for expanding opportunities for aspiring footballers.

Eto’o’s administration additionally placed emphasis on upgrading football infrastructure.

Renovation of stadiums and training centres, along with support for regional associations, formed part of his strategy to lift standards across all levels of the game.

Observers in Cameroon say his re-election signals widespread satisfaction with these reforms.

Many delegates and football stakeholders believe that continuity will help sustain the progress made and address lingering challenges within the sport.

With a new four-
year term secured, Eto’o is expected to push forward with unfinished projects. Improving club licensing systems, ensuring timely payment of player salaries and enhancing the competitiveness of domestic competitions remain high on his priority list.

The federation will also look to strengthen the performance of national teams, from youth categories to the senior Indomitable Lions.

Eto’o has repeatedly stressed the importance of restoring Cameroon’s dominance on the continent.

International partners are also watching closely, as FECAFOOT under Eto’o has sought stronger collaborations with global football bodies.

His profile as one of Africa’s greatest footballers continues to attract attention and support.

As Eto’o embarks on his second term, Cameroonians remain hopeful that his leadership will further elevate the country’s football.

The resounding election victory provides him with a renewed mandate and a clear message of trust to continue driving reforms and shaping the future of the sport.
