MZIMBA-(MaraviPost)-A devastating fire has ravaged the office of Inkosi ya Makosi M’mbelwa V at Edingeni in Mzimba, destroying vital records and property.

The blaze, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, was sparked when three staff members attempted to drive away a bee hive that had settled in the storeroom.

The individuals, Offex Chavula, his son Depend Chavula, and watchman Jacob Mwase, lit a fire to chase the bees and harvest honey but left the premises around 2 a.m. unaware that the flames had spread to the timber roofing of the office.

The fire reduced everything in the registry to ashes, except for a small refrigerator and a computer monitor.

Northern Region police spokesperson, Cecilia Mfune, confirmed the incident and said police are continuing their inquiries to determine the full extent of the damage and to assess the total value of the property lost.

“We are investigating the matter and will provide more information once we have assessed the damage,” she said.

The loss of records and property is a significant blow to the office, and efforts are underway to reconstruct and recover from the damage.

The community is rallying behind the affected office, offering support and assistance to help restore operations.
