Former Malawi President Joyce Banda in Nigeria’s Warri Kingdom heroine welcome

ABUJA-(MaraviPost)-Former President of Malawi, Dr. Joyce Banda, has received a warm welcome at the Warri Kingdom in Delta State, Nigeria, where she met with His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri Kingdom, and his Queen.

The visit, which took place on February 10, 2026, was a follow-up to an invitation extended by the royal couple during a conference in Botswana several months ago.

Dr. Banda, who is the Chairperson of the Board for the Global Fairness Initiative, expressed her admiration for the progressive vision and modernization efforts of the Olu of Warri.

During her visit, Dr. Banda held discussions with the royal couple on potential partnerships between the Royal Iwere Foundation and the Joyce Banda Foundation, focusing on community development, education, and women’s economic empowerment.

The two foundations have agreed to collaborate, with Dr. Banda scheduled to visit some of the Royal Iwere Foundation’s projects in the morning before returning to Abuja.

“I am speechless,” Dr. Banda said, expressing her gratitude for the warm reception. “Let the photos tell the story. I look forward to our collaboration. May Your Majesties stay blessed always.”

The visit highlights the growing ties between West and Southern Africa, with a focus on shared goals of development and empowerment.

The meeting between Dr. Banda and the Olu of Warri reinforces the aspiration for a more united and prosperous continent, built on mutual respect and cooperative advancement.

Dr. Banda’s visit to Warri Kingdom is part of her continued efforts to promote global health and development issues, particularly through her foundation, which has been involved in various initiatives, including food security and education programs.
