BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Four convicted prisoners on Friday, December 9, 2022 escaped from lawful custody.
According to police officers William kachala, willy Chithando and Aubrey kalakatha, prison warders from Chichiri Prison, were on court escort with the 5 convicts to Limbe Darton court where they were under trial for robbery cases.
After court session on their way to chichiri prison, upon reaching Limbe Market at 4 ways, one suspect sprayed pepper into the eyes of officer kachala.
While the other suspect stabed officer Chithando on the neck and Kalakata was stabed on the stomach with a Knife.
Later the suspects managed to unlock themselves the hand cuff and snatched a pistol from kachala and threw it outside the vehicle.
Due to traffic jam, the following suspects managed to jump out of the police land cruiser reg number MP 2350 while the car was moving.
The escapees are identified as
1). Isaac Mpinga. 22yrs v.g mphwere T/ A Mkalo. D. Mulanje. Who was answering a case of kidnapping and he was also a convict of a case of robbery in Mulanje.
- Charles Magalasi of Majawa v.g T/A Masiku D. Mulanje. He was convicted to 8 yrs in cases of Robbery and Burglary.
- Innocent Benjamin 26 yrs of village Pulunjamu Milanje in Mozambique. He was convicted to 10 yrs in a case of Robbery
- Enock Sailesi 37 yrs of Kapichi in Thyolo District. 10 years convicted in a case of robbery in Mulanje. And Emmanuel Amos Monya who has been arrested and is now at Chichiri Prison.
Meanwhile Chithando and Kalakata are admitted at Queens Elizabeth Central Hospital
Efforts are still in progress to arrest the remaining 4 convicts.
