Friends of Chief Mtwalo donates Covid-19 PPEs

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Residents of Mtwalo were in all smiles on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 following the donation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) by Friends of Mtwalo.

lnkosi Mtwalo, who graced the occasion at Mtwalo Health Centre said the donation came at a right time and will help in the fight again st Covid-19 pandemic in his area.

“At first people were reluctant when it came to Covid -19 preventive measures but having witnessed some deaths and serious illnesses for themselves in my area they realised that Covid-19 is real therefore the donation has come at a right time,let me also take the opportunity to edge my people to get vaccinated as this will not only protect them alone, but also their loved ones. l have already taken the jab, please do the same,” said Mtwalo.

A member of Friends of Mtwalo, Othaniel Hara, who presented the donation worth more than MK1 million on behalf of the grouping said the donation was one way of responding to the presidential request of taking part in helping the fight against Covid -19 pandemic in the country.

He said; “As sons and daughters of Mtwalo we vow to helping the residents of this area where need be”.

All the health centers in Mtwalo’s area will benefit from the donation which includes chlorine,buckets,hand sanitizers face masks, among other items.

Representing the Mzimba North district Health Officer Catherine Chinoko said the DHOs office is overwhelmed with the number of people who are flocking to the nearest health facilities to get vaccinated.

According to district health office , more than 10, 000 people got vaccinated as of April 7th,2021.

Mtwalo health centre in-charge Mac Donarld Chitaya while thanking the grouping for the timely donation, added that the clinic also needs to be renovated and lacks an ambulance to help them in their day to day operations.

lnkosi Mtwalo’s area has 10 health centers including Luvwele built in 1958 but have never been renovated ever since.

People who comes from Mtwalo initially came up with a whats app group named Friends of Mtwalo with the aim of developing the area that having hit with the pandemic they decided to help,starting with the health centres located in the area.
