pregnant woman

KARACHI-(MaraviPost)-A pregnant woman has died of starvation in Pakistan’s Sindh province following a lockdown that government imposed on its citizens as one way to curb the spread of covid-19 in the country.

Report by Daily Express has revealed the 30 year-old Sughra Bibi died after her husband Allah Baksh, a daily wager failed to fend for her and other six children due to the restrictions that government imposed on them.

Other reports have also revealed that Mr Baksh failed to lay his wife to rest due to lack of money and local residents in the area raised money through donations for her burial.

Commenting on the matter, government spokesperson has chastised the residents for failing to raise money to provide rations to the family after they managed to do so for her burial.

The spokesperson has however revealed that government is making arrangements to distributing free food and cash to the poor in rural areas of Sindh.

Meanwhile, government has announced that they are investigating the starvation-related death.

Pakistan has been under lockdown for over a month and there are nearly 8,500 confirmed cases of coronavirus with 176 reported deaths.
