BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Stock Exchange listed sugar manufacturer, Illovo Sugar Malawi Plc has donated 10 high performance computers valued at K30 million to the Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA) to boost the institution’s ICT capabilities.
The donation was presented by Head of Illovo’s Legal and Corporate Affairs Maureen Kachingwe and received on behalf of the University by Dr. Francis Moto, the Vice Chancellor on Friday at the Chisombezi campus.
“Illovo saw the need for more computers at Catholic University and decided to come in. In addition, this initiative is in honour of the late Professor Ngeyi Kanyongolo, a legal scholar and former Vice Chancellor who had made the appeal for support prior to her passing,” said Kachingwe.
She said the computers will help to enhance research capabilities, digital literacy, and academic productivity by equipping CUNIMA students with the skills needed to thrive in the competitive job market.
“By investing in higher education, ISM is contributing to the development of a skilled workforce and supporting Malawi’s long-term socio-economic growth,” said Kachingwe.
For his part, Catholic University of Malawi’s Vice Chancellor Dr Francis Moto expressed gratitude for Illovo Sugar Malawi’s generosity, highlighting the importance of such partnerships in advancing the university’s mission.
“We appreciate Illovo Sugar Malawi’s commitment to education and community development. This donation will significantly enhance our ICT capabilities, providing our students with the tools they need to succeed in an increasingly digital world,” said Moto.
This initiative is part of Illovo Sugar Malawi’s ongoing efforts to contribute to Malawi’s socio-economic development through strategic investments in education, health, and the thriving community projects.
