JOHANNESBURG – (MaraviPost)- South Africa’s Parliament is moving forward with the impeachment committee against President Cyril Ramaphosa, following a Constitutional Court ruling that the National Assembly’s decision to reject the Section 89 panel report was unconstitutional.

The committee, comprising 31 members from 16 political parties, will investigate allegations of serious misconduct and constitutional violations related to the Phala Phala farm scandal.

Parties have until the close of business today to submit their representatives.

National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza has rejected the African Transformation Movement’s (ATM) request to debate a motion of no confidence in Ramaphosa, citing that the matter is already before the impeachment committee.

The ATM has accused Didiza of protecting the President.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced its representatives, including George Michalakis, Glynnis Breytenbach, and Nazley Sharif, while the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) has nominated John Hlophe, Khanyisile Litchfield-Tshabalala, and Mmabatho Mokoena-Zondi.

Ramaphosa has indicated he will challenge the impeachment proceedings, claiming the Constitutional Court ruling doesn’t compel him to resign.

The outcome hangs in the balance, with the ANC’s stance and coalition partners’ support crucial to Ramaphosa’s fate.
