BLANTYRE-(Maravi Post)-The Japanese Embassy believes that Malawi businesses can greatly benefit from partnering with Japanese companies through franchises, particularly in the agriculture sector.

Japanese Ambassador to Malawi, Youichi Oya, highlighted this opportunity at the second Japan-Malawi Business Seminar in Lilongwe on Wednesday.

However, Oya noted that most Japanese companies are hesitant to invest in Malawi due to regulatory issues and utility risks such as water and electricity challenges.

He said despite these challenges, companies like Tokyo8 Global are offering franchise opportunities that could transform Malawi’s agro-based economy.

Oya said Tokyo8 Global produces organic fertilizers as an alternative to chemical fertilizers.

On her part,Tokyo8 international business development officer, Glory Sibale, said they have already started working with potential franchisees, with their liquid fertilizer certificate process at an advanced stage.

The development comes as Malawi’s economy is projected to grow by 4% in 2025, driven by improved food security, better export earnings, and investments in key sectors like agriculture and mining.
