BALAKA-(MaraviPost)-The main opposition Malawi Congress Party’s (MCP) President Lazarus Chakwera on Saturday assured the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) members of their position following massive defection into the party.
The assurance comes amid fears amongst some MCP NEC members of the coming in of new people into the party that they will grab their positions.
For instance, the joining in of Lower Shire political and business pundit Sidik Mia into MCP has created some anxiety within files and ranks of the party including the position of the Vice which the Speaker Richard Msowoya holds.
But addressing the rally in Balaka, Chakwera assured the NEC members that their positions were intact until the next convention.
The MCP President told the gathering that the party goes beyond regionalism which is currently working across the board to cover national representation.
Chakwera therefore advise members to allow other interested individuals to join MCP saying the move will strengthen the party’s structures.
“The coming in of new members into the party must not worry anybody but rather be happy as we are building the party ahead of 2019 elections. Everyone who wishes the party well must be happy with massive defection into the party.
“However, MCP is not a regional party but national one as were making strides to reach every corner of this country. The party don’t embrace regionalism hence we are welcoming everyone from any part of this country,” assured Chakwera.
The MCP leader jointly held the rally alongside Mia that witnessed joining of Former Mangochi Lutende lawmaker Makumba.
