BLANTYRE(MaraviPost)—The Junior Flames are still finding it difficult to be composed when playing at home as they continue disappointing supporters with latest being a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Chipolopolo Juniors of Zambia in the first leg of the 2015 Africa Junior Championship final round.
Playing at the Kamuzu Stadium on Satuday, the Enerst Mtawali’s charges were completely outclassed, giving chance the Zambia side to score two goals in the first half thereby narrowing their chances to qualify.
Malawi got their goal through a spot kick which was well taken by Chawanangwa Kawonga.
Malawi will travel to Zambia for a second leg match in which the winner will qualify for the 2015 Africa Youth Championship finals in Senegal.
The Junior Flames haven’t won at home in all the games they have played.
They were held to a 1-all draw by Botswana in the first round at the Kamuzu Stadium but they managed to beat the Tswanas 2-0 in the return leg in Gaborone to advance with a 3-1 aggregate.
In the second round, the Junior Flames drew with DR Congo 2-2 at home but stunned the Congolese 2-0 in the return match in Kinshasa to reach the final round with a 4-2 aggregate.
It is yet to be known if they are going to do the same with the Chipolopolo Juniors in the return leg, but according to what Mtawali said few days ago, it is difficult for Malawi to beat Zambia at their backyard.
“We can’t do the same with Zambia. They are ruthless and we need to win at home to enhance our chances of qualifying,” Mtawali was quoted as saying in the local papers.
