Mzuzu chief residents magistrate court on Wednesday, set free eight suspected Tanzania spies who were arrested at Kayerekera Uranium Mine Site in Karonga on 20 December, 2016.

The eight were charged with criminal trespass and conducting reconnaissance.

However, the group denied the charges since the time of their arrest.

According to them, their main aim of visiting Kayerekera, was to gain knowledge from the uranium mine among others, what it look like but not spying as was charged.

After they were found them guilty, Chief resident Magistrate Texious Masoamphambe, sentenced the group with one month imprisonment for criminal trespass and three months imprisonment for conducting reconnaissance.

However, Masoamphambe suspended the sentence for six months on condition that the eight should not commit any crime within the period.

The court also ordered government to repatriate the group.
