MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-As per its statutory tradition, government has granted two weeks, from 23rd December, 2019 to 3rd January, 2020, as a public holiday for civil servants to enjoy the impending festive season.
In a letter signed by the Chief Secretary to the Government and the Office of the President and Cabinet, Lloyd Muhara, the holiday is meant for the public officers to celebrate the Christmas and the New Year Festivity with their friends and families.
The letter further indicates that the Office of the Accountant General will be advised accordingly to see to it that all civil servants have received their salaries by 17th December 2019.
Nevertheless, the Chief Secretary to the government has stated that the granting of the Christmas and New Year Holiday does not mean a declaration of public holidays in the country.
Meanwhile, as some civil servants will be on extended holiday, officers whose institutions provide essential services such as hospitals, Police, Immigration and airports will be required to remain at work.
This arrangement is made to ensure that such services are not disrupted during the season of joy.
The Chief Secretary advises that special arrangements will be put in place for officers in such departments to enjoy their holidays in the course of the year.
Christians across the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in the month of December.
The celebration comes bumper to bumper with the New Year one.
