MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Legal Aid Bureau has on Monday failed to start operating in some of its district offices due to administrative hitches.
According to reports, the Bureau has recently been announcing that in 2020 it is going to open some offices in districts like Karonga, Nkhotakota, Mchinji, Mangochi, Mwanza and Mulanje.
However, as of Monday, 6 January, 2020, it was only two district offices which opened their doors.
Commenting on the development, Director of Legal Aid Bureau, Masauko Chankakala, said the delay was due to some administrative challenges, but all the offices in the designated districts will soon be operational.
“We are starting our operations in those districts. People are ready to advocate justice. Of course, there are some challenges, but those are very small. Any time this week all offices will be in operation,” said Chankakala.
Legal Aid Bureau is a Department in the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs which the government instituted with an aim of helping the less privileged Malawians to access justice.
For the past few years, the Bureau has been faced with some challenges like lack of funds for its operations and shortage of manpower.
