MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has warned officers indulging in corruption and fraudulent activities at Likongwe City Council and other councils in the country that the long arm of the Government will not spare them; on they are caught in the act.
In a statement released on October 24, 2019, the Ministry says that there is a revelation of fraudulent activities are taking place at Lilongwe City Council.
“Recently, it has been revealed that fraudulent activities are taking place Lilongwe District Council. The revelations indicate that two Accounts Officers who among other activities, have been pocketing deceased funds for minors and Other Recurrent Transactions (ORT).”
“Preliminary reports that an approximate amount of K113, 000, 000 deceased estates and MK 19, 000, 000 ORT has been embezzled. Currently, a preliminary report is and necessary action is being taken together with the police,” reads the statement in part.
Lately, there have numerous scandalous activities of public funds being misappropriated in the Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Government.
