BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The main opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has trashed the newly released Chakwera’s cabinet describes it as bloated with irregular regional representation.
In a statement, the party’s spokesperson Shadrek Namalomba says the DPP observes that President Chakwera has missed an opportunity to appoint a cabinet that will assist him to begin to address the nose dividing economy to recover for the benefit of suffering Malawians.
The party says, Malawians expected Chakwera to reshuffle the cabinet and drop all Ministers embroiled in corruption and incompetence.
“This did not happen. He only recycled the very same Ministers Malawians do not want to see near their public coffers. Malawians expected a cabinet that is representative of the whole nation. This did not happen, Malawians expected a lean cabinet so that the savings from the public resources could go to critical services such as buying drugs for our health institutions. This did not happen.This cabinet compromises 29 Ministers and Deputy Ministers.
“We in the DPP are very pessimistic of the new cabinet. We fear for Malawians. With this new cabinet, we see not any light to ending the economic ending economic sufferings besieging Malawians,” reads the statement.
Although DPP describes Chakwera’s new cabinet as full of irregular regional representatives, the party says it still applaud the President for appointing more women into his cabinet and complying with Section 11(1) of the Gender Equality Act 2013, which states the importance of women involvement in top government positions.
On social media, people have been blaming Chakwera for appointing new cabinet with more Ministers from the central region, a place where he calls a home region.
The cabinet also surprises many Malawians as over 80 percent of the Ministers have maintained ministerial positions.
