LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Paralympic Committee (MPC) on Saturday, April, 20, 2024 is expected to send three Para-Athletes to Morocco for World Para-Athletics grand Prix tournament.
The tournament is slated for Morocco’s capital, Marrakech from 26th-28 April and they will be used as qualifiers for the 2024 Paris – France Paralympic games to be held in August.
The three athletes who will represent the Malawian flag in Morocco are;Mphatso Saukire (Male) who is in category T12 and is expected to run 1,500M and 200M.
The second athlete is Moses Misoya in category T13 and is expected to compete in 200M and 400M.Third one is a female athlete in Taonele Banda who is in category T13,and she will compete in 1,500M and 400M.
Head coach of the athletes Agnes Chikwakwa Jamali is upbeat that team Malawi will perform beyond expectations and bring Gold medals in the country.
“We have been in camp for two weeks a thing that rarely happen in most cases and this is giving me confidence that the athletes will perform and win. They have responded well to the sessions we tackled.
“The Morocco tournament is important because it is a qualifying game for Paris-Para games. As we leave for Marrakech, let me assure Malawians that we are going to work hard and qualify for the Paris Games”, said Jamali.
One of the athlete,Mphatso Saukile says he is ready for the tournament in Morocco.
“I have prepared well for the tournament and I will win. I am going there to reduce my time and I am upbeat it is going to happen”, explains Saukile.
