Malawi President Mutharika implored to tame the steep decline of the Kwacha

1 Min Read

Malawi’s President Peter Mutharika has been asked to tame the Kwacha which is quickly nosediving to reach the bedrock.

This comes amid report from the Malawi’s local press that Government might reduce Farm Input Subsidy following the change in DE nominal patterns of Malawi currency.

Local Citizens which we interviewed engaged in the streets of Lilongwe asked the President Peter Mutharika to consult widely and come up with the lasting solutions regarding the Malawi currency.

“I feel the president being citizen number one should consult widely and come up with lasting solution on the matter.” Said George Foster, a businessman.

“Life is unbearable in Malawi now we are just living like slaves we don’t know what will be our next meal, we only rely of God,” said Mr Foster.

Currently, the Kwacha is trading at K560 against the dollar and economists predict that the depreciation will go further.

Florence Phiri from area 36 said government should do something so that Malawians should not suffer due to declining of the Malawi Kwacha.
