Malawi Speaker Gotani Hara appointed to A Global body as IPU member to help bring peace to Ukraine

Malawi Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara has been elected as a member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to help in the peaceful resolution of Ukraine.

Hara was elected during the IPU General Assembly and Related Meetings that were held in Geneva, Switzerland from 23rd to
27thMarch, 2024.

The leader of the delegation, Ken Kandodo, made the remarks while presenting a report to the House for information and consideration.

Kandodo stated that the meeting brought together over 400 parliamentarians from across the globe, including Malawi
to discuss pressing global issues.

He stated that the Assembly emphasized the significance of global the resolution of challenges such as climate change, peace, and security requires cooperation of sustainable development

He added that the delegation discussed how technological advancements have an impact on society.

“I am concerned about the deterioration of peace and the escalation and severity of conflicts within and between countries, which could jeopardize development gains and attainment,Said Kandodo.

He stated that delegates were more concerned about the vulnerable, marginalized, and under-access to socio-economic and political rights.

Highlighting that Conflict’s impact worsens already existing disparities, such as unequal democracy, and the need for legislative frameworks to adjust to these modifications

He therefore Reaffirmed their stance on Parliamentary diplomacy.
