BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—The Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) has announced a fresh strike that is expected to commence tomorrow, Tuesday, Maravi Post has learnt.

TUM President Willy Malimba has told all public school teachers not to report to work tomorrow until government addresses their concerns.

Initially, the union had given government 7 days to start giving them allowances, a demand which government did not respond to.

This is coming a week after the Presidential Taskforce on Covid19 refused to give the teachers allowances that would come from their PPEs.

Teachers in Malawi’s public schools are demanding bonus pay for working during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as better protective equipment.
