A local company called Mabuu Holdings Limited (MHL) has launched a program to promote travelling to Likoma Island. The company which has representatives in the Capital City Lilongwe and at Likoma Island has started the initiative with the sole purpose of ensuring that more and more people visit Likoma, which is a tourist gem for Malawi. According to its Customer Care Manager at Likoma Island who runs the Visit Likoma Island initiative, Spencer Mtelekesya, has said-
“a lot of people wish to visit Likoma Island. I have travelled to many parts of Malawi, once I tell them that I am staying at Likoma, almost everyone expresses interest to visit the Island. Others have visited almost all districts in Malawi except Likoma. And you can see that this is a gold mine, as we just need to find the way of getting the gold out to the market. So, this Visit Likoma Island initiative is currently running on Facebook through a Facebook page labeled Visit Likoma Island and also through a website www.visitlikomaisland.com. We anticipate an increase in the number of people who visit Likoma Island by 10% every year starting with the remaining half of this 2015. Visit Likoma Island initiative will involve organising a full trip of individuals or groups through different transportation channels. You may wish to know that what prevents people from visiting Likoma is because they literally have no clue on how they can find themselves there. So our project will solve that puzzle for our customers. We will do transport arrangements for you all the way to Likoma Island from anywhere in Malawi, we will also organise accommodation and sight seeing activities. Visit Likoma Island will also organise you into travelling groups as a way of cutting your travel costs. A 15% charge is deducted form the travellers as fees for the service”.
Those wishing to Visit Likoma Island can contact the team through their Facebook page or through the website shortly after its launch in the next 2 months.
“We assure our prospective customers that we are here for them and they will never regret visiting Likoma to fulfill their dream”.
Says Spencer who can be contacted on +265 991 417 257 or +265 881 180 078.
Likoma Island is the larger of two inhabited islands in Lake Malawi the smaller being the nearby Chizumulu. Likoma and Chizumulu both belong to Malawi, and together they make up the Likoma District. Although both islands lie just a few kilometres from Mozambique, and are entirely surrounded by Mozambican territorial waters, they are both exclaves of Malawi. Likoma prides itself in clear and unpolluted waters, good sandy and rocky beaches, fresh fish and unspoilt beautiful sceneries. Additionally it has the Fudwe Museum and Leisure Centre, the famous Kaya Mawa Lodge and the largest Cathedral in Central Africa, the St Peters Anglican Cathedral. Others can also have a chance to see monkeys, mbira, otters among other beautiful water and forest birds.
