Nkhotakota, January 30, 2015: A 24-year-old man is in police custody at Nkhunga Police Station in Dwangwa for allegedly having sex with a 12-year-old boy.
Nkhunga Police Spokesperson Sub-inspector Laban Makalani said Robert Budala is alleged to have committed sodomy twice during separate occasions in the month of December, 2014.
“According to the boy, the man had sex with him first in the bathroom within his compound and secondly in a bush near a graveyard at Kamphambale Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kafuzira in Nkhotakota district where both of them reside.
“The boy revealed the matter to his parents early January, 2015. The issue was first reported to traditional leaders within the area who summoned the suspect. The suspect admitted before the traditional leaders in the village that he had sex with the boy once during the month of December,” Makalani said.
The police publicist further said following the revelation, the boy’s parents took up the matter to Kasitu Police Unit under Nkhunga Police Station’s jurisdiction.
“Officers at the police unit referred the victim to Dwambadzi Health Centre where medical officers found evidence of possible anal penetration.
“The suspect has been charged with an offence of sodomy under section 153 of the Penal Code. The suspect has pleaded not guilty in his caution statement obtained from him at Nkhunga Police Station,” he said.
The suspect is expected to appear before Nkhunga Second Grade Magistrate court soon to answer sodomy charges.
