BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-United Democratic Front (UDF) President Atupele Muluzi has urged Malawians to remain calm and patient as the nation awaits official results from the ongoing 2025 general elections.

In a press statement released early Wednesday morning, Muluzi expressed concern over reports that some political parties were circulating unverified election results on various platforms, a development he warned could undermine public trust in the electoral process.

“As election results begin to flow in from across our nation, we find ourselves at a crucial moment that demands calm, patience and unity from all of us,” said Muluzi.

“We are aware that some political parties have begun circulating unverified election results while we understand the excitement surrounding this democratic exercise, we must remember our collective responsibility to protect the integrity of every vote cast by our people,”He added.

Muluzi stressed that the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is the only legally mandated body to announce official election results and called on all stakeholders to respect the commission’s role and independence.

“It is essential that we allow the proper verification processes to unfold, ensuring that every vote is counted and that the true will of the Malawian people is accurately reflected,” he explained.

The UDF leader also appealed to the general public to avoid spreading unverified information which he said could incite unnecessary tension and conflict.

Muluzi disclosed that the UDF’s own Parallel Voter Tabulation (PVT) system had shown encouraging results which gave the party optimism about its performance.

However, he emphasized that his party would continue to respect the official channels and processes laid out by law.

“Our PVT, conducted with the highest standards of transparency and accuracy, is showing positive trends that give us great cause for optimism,” Muluzi revealed.

“We shall continue to exercise patience and allow the official processes to unfold as prescribed by law, recognizing that protecting every citizen’s vote is paramount to our democratic values,”he added.

He concluded by expressing his unwavering confidence in Malawi’s democratic systems and urged all political leaders to prioritize national unity over partisanship during this critical period.

“May God continue to bless our beloved Malawi and may this electoral process strengthen rather than divide us as a nation,” said Muluzi.

The 2025 general elections are among the most closely contested in Malawi’s recent history with several major parties competing for the presidency, parliamentary seats and local government positions. Official results from MEC are expected in the coming days.
