Malawi’s Mangochi Gateway College Principal Chriford Pangani arrested for defrauding students

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Police in Mulanje district are keeping in custody Chriford Pangani, the principal of Mangochi Gateway College, for allegedly defrauding students of millions of kwacha in examination fees.

Mulanje Police Station Spokesperson Gresham Ngwira confirmed of news with the press saying one of the students, Tadala Gama, who was studying Public Health at the institution, told them that in February this year, he and 95 other students paid MK145,000 each in examination money, totaling roughly to MK13 Million.

However, when the results were released and diplomas were distributed, it was discovered that the papers were fake and the board which was used to issue the certificates and diplomas was also bogus.

Ngwira said after receiving a complaint, the police detained Pangani who hails from Nsona Village, Senior Chief Mabuka in Mulanje district.

Meanwhile, investigation continues and more arrests are expected.
