BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi’s Under-20 national teams kicked off their campaigns in Namibia with impressive wins, sending waves of excitement throughout the country.
The Young Flames, Malawi’s men’s football team, emerged victorious in the Cosafa U20 Championship, defeating Zimbabwe’s Young Warriors 2-1. Mwisho Mhango, a talented Germany-based striker, scored a brace, netting the opening goal in the 24th minute and then claiming the winner in the 72nd minute.
His impressive performance earned him the man of the match award.
The win propelled Malawi to the top of Group A with three points, and the team will look to build on this momentum in their upcoming matches.
On Sunday, the Young Flames will face hosts Namibia, and on Tuesday, they will wrap up their group qualifiers against Angola.
Head coach for the Young Flames, Milias Pofera, praised his team’s performance, saying it was a tough game but they managed to secure a win.
He emphasized that it is their plan to get a win in the next game on Sunday, and the team is focused on achieving their goals.
Meanwhile, Malawi’s Under-20 girls’ beach volleyball team, comprising Mayamiko Lengani and Takondwa Nguluwe, also started their tournament on a high note.
They dominated their match against Botswana, winning the first set 21-15 and the second set 21-6. This impressive win is a promising start to the tournament for the Malawian duo.
The victories are a boost to Malawi’s chances in the tournament, and fans will be eagerly following the teams’ progress.
