BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Ministry of Agriculture is set to establish 180 new Farmer Field Schools (FFS) in four districts of Lilongwe, Mzimba, Balaka, and Dowa, as part of the Sustainable Agriculture Production Program II (SAPP II).

The initiative aims to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability in the country.

Speaking during the opening of a training for extention service workers in Dowa on Monday,Deputy Director of Extension Services in the Ministry of Agriculture Kenneth Chaula emphasized that the schools will provide farmers with hands-on experience in selecting and experimenting with new agricultural technologies.

Chaula said the schools, which will run for an entire season, will enable farmers to choose technologies best suited for their ecological zones.

He said with 650 FFS already operational across the country, the new schools will further bolster the ministry’s efforts to transform the agriculture sector.
