MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Police in Mzimba have arrested a 19-year-old man, Maxwell Msimuko, for allegedly abducting an 18-month-old baby from a nursery school in Chimkusa.
Msimuko deceived school authorities by claiming to be the child’s uncle, and took the child on March 16.
The suspect then contacted the child’s mother, demanding a MK300,000 ransom via mobile money agent, threatening to kill the child if not paid.
Fortunately, police tracked Msimuko’s call logs and arrested him, recovering the child unharmed after three days.
Mzimba Police Spokesperson Maria Banda confirmed the arrest, stating the suspect will face charges.
This incident highlights concerns about child safety in Malawi, following similar cases in Mzimba and other areas.
