MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-What used to be known as Mzuni Football Club will now be known as Mzuzu Warriors Football Club.
According to the Club’s General Secretary, Donnex Chilonga, the new name of the Club has been arrived at following suggestions by the new sponsors of the same.
Chilonga further said on Monday that the Executive Members of the team will soon touch base with the Super League of Malawi (SULOM) to embark on the name changing exercise.
“We feel Mzuzu Warriors will be one representation of the community and that’s why indeed we have changed the name. We have really fought relegation and we thought it is important to change the name because we are fighters. So, we are warriors because we managed to survive relegation in 2019 TNM Super League season,” Chilonga said.
SULOM’s General Secretary, Williams Banda, could not be drawn for a comment but a local soccer analyst who once served at Football Association of Malawi (FAM) as a football administrator, Charles Nyirenda, has advised Mzuzu Warriors FC to remain focused and resilient as warriors are always faced with the toughest battles.
Mzuzu University which used to sponsor the club pulled its sponsorship out of the same at the beginning of the just end TNM Super League after the Club declined to remove non student players from its squad.
Mzuzu Warriors FC has finished the 2019 Season on position 12 with 32 points.
