MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Mzuzu University students have vowed to force the management of the institution to increase salaries for lecturers so that learning and writing of impending exams take place.
Academic and non academic staffers at the university are on strike demanding the management of the institution to increase their salaries with 20 per cent as per their agreement mid last year to effect it last January.
Following the suspension of classes and other essential services at the university for the past week, students have stressed that they will mobilise themselves for an action in order to force the management to wal the talk.
According to Mzuzu University Students Representative Council (Musrec) President, John Gondwe, students losing hope as regards their preparation for end of semester examinations in a week’s time.
“In fact we cannot access classrooms, the library and Wi-Fi. So, the situation is very bad, the students are very worried. Nothing is happening,” said Gondwe.
Meanwhile, Mzuzu University Registrar, Yonamu Ngwira, has not been available for comments on the development.
In October last year, staffers at the university downed their tools following what they called lack of security and safety on the campus after one of their own was stoned in the head by students who staged an illegal demonstration.
