LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-One of the members of Region 5, Namibia, is said to have engaged extra gear towards the African Union Region 5 Youth Games slated for December in the capital Lilongwe.
Gemina Haitembu who is the Chief Sports Officer in the Ministry of Sports in Namibia made sentiments during the tour of facilities which are expected to host the games.

She said Namibia is taking the games seriously as currently all their athletes are in camp preparing for the same.
“We are ready for the games in this 10th edition, we have selected athletes and officials that will be coming in December, the government is supporting us towards these region 5 games. We will be here in December to get medals not just to participate, we can’t just travel all the way to Malawi”,
” We have seen a great progress on the work being done in these facilities, the pictures we saw first time the delegation toured the infrastructures are quite different,” Haitembu said.
Namibia are going to participate in 6 sports codes, boxing, football, netball, swimming, Athletics.
Chief Executive Officer of Region 5 Committee, Stanley Mutoya, was also pleased with the work taking place at Silver,Civo Stadia, Griffin Saenda Indoor Sports Complex and Aquatic Sports Complex.
“We are very happy with Malawian Government support towards the games,in terms of getting contractors working on Civo and Silver Stadia. We expected the handover of some facilities in September due to some delays.
“In Africa we don’t manufacture some materials needed for some amenities hence importing from outside,” says Mutoya.
He added the CDM are anticipated to meet again this coming October and Hoping to have the full data of all the athletes and officials who are coming so that they make a proper plan in terms of accommodation and other logistics.
Delegates from Lesotho, Botswana, Zambia, Angola, Namibia, e-Swatini are in the country to appreciate the preparations process by Malawi as a host country.
However, Region 5 Committee has confirmed rescheduling of the trial games which was slated for September to October 2022 due to the same delays of facilities completion.

Malawi will host the 2022 African Union region 5 Youth games from 2-11 December.
