LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Hours after they were humbled by South Africa with 32-55 scores, Malawi Under 17 netball team defeated Namibia 42-39 to recover from the humiliation.
The game was highly contested as Namibia did not give room for the junior queens to display their usual game hence ended up struggling in defense and in attack.
In the first quarter Namibia led Malawi 9-8, and the second quarter the desert jewels maintained their lead, 22-23.
Beatrice Mpinganjira’s girls took the lead in the third quarter, but not a convincing one 32-29.
At regulation time the score sheet was Malawi the host 42-39 Namibia to the relief of coach Mpinganjira.
After the match assistant coach Mpinganjira acknowledged Namibia gave them a tough time saying the girls struggled in defending “At the same time the team was abit dead in the wings which gave room for the desert jewels to make free movements”.
“I expect another tough match against Zimbabwe,we are going to prepare our girls especially in the defense so that we should avoid conceding more goals”, Mpinganjira said.
The win for Malawi has revived chances of winning the championship.
The region 5 Youth games tourney which is currently underway in the Capital Lilongwe will come to an end on December 11, 2022.
