Neno residents await compensation talks with roads authority

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Residents in Neno district who have not yet received compensation for land acquired for a government road project are still waiting for talks with the Roads Authority (RA).

The affected individuals, including Patrick Chikafa from Ligowe area, had planned to stage demonstrations last week but put the plans on hold after RA officials promised to visit the area within a week to discuss compensation.

According to Chikafa, the community is eager to resolve the issue and receive the compensation they are entitled to.

Wilson Msowoya, a council official responsible for land matters in Neno district, confirmed awareness of the issue and expressed hope that RA would conduct a joint assessment with the council to identify eligible recipients.

If RA fails to visit the area within the specified timeframe, Msowoya said the affected residents have the right to visit the authority’s headquarters in Lilongwe to express their concerns.

The Roads Authority is responsible for developing, maintaining, and managing Malawi’s road network infrastructure.
